Today I am honored to present to the world a young lady who by many standards is one of the best at what she does. She is someone who rarely admits to being average let alone great. Where did she come from? Who is she? What is her story?
Well folks: I give it to you now:
Raw and uncensored Allow me to introduce, the ever talented, forever humble:
Kristen Marie Wasser
When I first talked to this young lady she was 19, and coming out of a MAJOR ordeal that I will get to momentarily.
She was born as the second child of Leonard and Juanita Wasser.
Older brother who is an academic scholar in his own right possess the same qualities our bright young artist does: TALENT.
Talent is not just a word to throw around in the area of Art. Many people THINK they have what it takes and try ever so hard to be perfect.Kristen Marie however, doesn’t have to even try.
Let’s go back, to the cabin in Shaver Lake, CA where she grew up.
Her father, retired Military Royalty in his own right, has earned the respect of his comrades in arms. He was a star athlete, both in summer and winter sports.
Minnesota State Graduate with his Masters.
Semi-Professional Football was his future, along with being on the National Biathlon Ski Team.
Her Mother, a brilliant swimmer, graduated from Fresno State and attained her Maters in Bio-Chemistry.
So this family is not short of both brawn and brain.
Growing up, the older brother Eric and Younger sister Kristen had and still do, as bond that is unbreakable, which is how they were raised.
Now in this cabin in the foothills, the grandparents lived there as well.
With her father in the Military, he ran a cable business which included not just Juanita, but both of Juanita’s parents.
It was soon a restaurant was opened up being given as a gift to Juanita’s parents so they could stay there not just running that business, but to get help with the kids!
Now this fun family is not just phenomenal on paper, they are in person as well.
To get to the heart of the matter, of who this young artist full of humility and grace, we must start with her as a young child.
She fully admits she had a GREAT childhood because she got to see “gramma and grampa” every day, she was never sad unless she fell and needed a pickle or smashed salami sandwich. From that she became the family princess, who never felt she deserved to or of felt entitled.
As I sit with her parents,
I was able to ask the following:
Leonard and Juanita:
Has Kristen always been a majorly wonderful artist?
Their response was hilarious and fitting!
They simply said NO!
However she drew on the stars banister with crayons, and rather than yelling at her and stopping her, they let her do what she felt, GRANTED they didn’t allow her to run wild, but they did allow her to grow into her own becoming.
So on the surface, this family is simply amazing; even if you dig deeper into them, you will find out the magnitude of amazing this family truly is.
They moved from the Mountains of Shaver Lake, to the city of Fresno.
Leonard sold the family cable business in order to do so, honored and supported by Juanita and her parents.
In the process of adapting to the city, private schools were the future of both Eric and Kristen.
From Kindergarten to Senior Year of High School, immersed into their Catholic Faith, growing stronger day by day.
Her artwork stuck out like a sore thumb.
As humbly as she is now; she was then. Various occasions to draw, she took them.
Not all, in her opinion were display worthy.
It sure was. It was then she decided to attempt a serious venture in replication.
As the years progressed, she grew into, as she would describe it, “A classic Nerd who loved sports, dance and art”
YES, I would agree!
What is a very important aspect to this young amazing woman, is the trials and tribulations she has gone through: and if you were to talk to her or be around her, you would never know it. That’s just part of her beauty and what makes her so amazing
The dreams of this young lady are like many others…to become a ballerina, to become an all-American athlete, make their parents proud, and become an artist that brings smiles to all who see.
Too good to be true? Yes, that’s what is said by some, if not all of the people who read about how she came to be, and who she is on the inside is just as beautiful as who she is on the out…Even though she doesn’t see her outside as beautiful…
The Dream of being a ballerina, and a track athlete were always the wishes she would say to herself every birthday before she blew out the candles.
Now as I stated before, her coming through a MAJOR ordeal is nothing short of a miracle. Allow me to elaborate (of course, with her permission, and my promise not to give more details than allowed) Her sophomore year in college, well on her way with running the 400m in track and a promising ballet career she placed on the back burner to focus all her energy on the passion she had for running. It was this year that she says changed her only physically, never mentally.
She was attacked. Brutally, Violently, and yes sexually. This took place in the fields around her college campus.
She was grabbed, thrown into the back of a black suburban, and 3 violent hours later she was left, tied in barbed-wire, left to die. A field worker discovered her later that evening
Rushed to the hospital she was unconscious for three days. Woke up to her mother holding her hand and father, as she states it, snoring. She said she had to laugh.
It’s the moments like those that make her a special girl. She became known throughout the hospital as the angel with the broken wings.
She would do her best to make others laugh because she know how awful she looked, and could see it on everyone’s face as they came into her room.
The doctors told her she would be lucky to even walk normal again so she would have to place dance and track on the back burner close to the corner where people leave their dreams shattered.
Her family, well they taught her how to get past and overcome. She was determined to walk, she told the doctors she will run again, and after she does she will be on that stage once more as well.
It was during this time she became one with her craft and painted and drew and created pieces that could literally take your breath away.
Now if we fast forward, you will learn that one and a half years later, she ran again. Another 9months, she was back on stage.
It is amazing the resolve in this girl.
The fire she has inside that keeps her going.
In her second valent effort, she gave her mother a kidney.
The finest act of love any daughter can give a mother.
The best thing I have noticed is that in her talk about putting her family before herself, you never really see someone actually walk the walk. She does. She loves her mother, she loves her father, and she loves her brother and her little Pomeranian.
She has said that there are a select group of people she has either let in or will let in. I am simply honored to know this bright young star and the simple fact she is so humble with who she is and her amazing talent makes you want to be around her all the more. She has yet to see it and have a pretty good idea she will think it’s too much and ask for it to be taken down.
BUT IF YOU WISH: Please Do Not Hesitate on requesting a painting done by her for you!
NOW PLEASE! ENJOY THIS SITE!!
